We do it all. We do it right!

Finishing a basement can add valuable living space to your home. Here's a general guide on how JB Construction Management of New Jersey might approach finishing a basement:

Planning and Preparation:

  1. Obtain Necessary Permits: Check with your local building department to determine if permits are required for finishing your basement. JB Construction Management will ensure that all necessary permits are obtained before starting the project.

  2. Assess Moisture Issues: Basements are prone to moisture problems. JB Construction Management will assess the basement for any signs of water intrusion, such as dampness, mold, or efflorescence. They'll address any moisture issues before proceeding with the finishing work.

  3. Plan Layout and Design: Work with JB Construction Management to plan the layout and design of your finished basement. Determine how you'll use the space and create a floor plan that meets your needs.

Framing:

  1. Frame Walls: JB Construction Management will frame the basement walls using 2” x 4” Douglas fir 16” on center. Before wall framing begins a 2” x 4” pressure-treated lumber will be installed as the bottom plate to prevent moisture damage from the contact of the concrete floor. We’ll frame around any obstructions such as pipes, ducts, support columns or any duct used for central air and heat.

  2. Insulate Walls: Fiberglass batts Insulation will be installed between the studs to provide thermal and sound insulation. (common)

Electrical and Plumbing:

  1. Electrical Wiring: Installation of electrical wiring and outlets according to local building codes. This includes wiring for lighting, outlets, switches, and any other electrical needs.

  2. Plumbing: If your basement will include a bathroom or wet bar, plumbing shall be installed as needed. This may include running water supply lines, drainage pipes, and vent pipes.

Walls and Ceiling:

  1. Drywall Installation: Once the framing and electrical/plumbing rough-ins are complete, drywall will be installed on the walls and ceiling. JB Construction Management will tape, mud, and sand the drywall seams for a smooth finish.

  2. Ceiling Finishes: There are various options for finishing the ceiling, including drywall, drop ceiling tiles, or even leaving the ceiling exposed for an industrial look. JB Construction Management will help you choose the best option for your basement.

Flooring:

  1. Flooring Installation: JB Construction Management will install flooring according to your preferences and budget. Common options for basement flooring include carpet, laminate, engineered wood, vinyl plank, or tile.

Trim and Finishing Touches:

  1. Trim Installation: Baseboards and door trim will be installed to provide a finished look to the space.

  2. Painting: Walls, ceilings, and trim will be painted with the colors of your choice.

  3. Lighting Fixtures: Install lighting fixtures to illuminate the space. This may include LED recessed lighting, pendant lights, sconces, or ceiling fans.

Final Inspection and Cleanup:

  1. Inspection: Once the finishing work is complete, JB Construction Management will schedule a final inspection to ensure everything meets building codes and standards.

  2. Cleanup: After passing inspection, JB Construction Management will clean up the work area, removing debris and ensuring the basement is ready for use.

Finishing a basement is a significant project that requires careful planning and attention to detail. JB Construction Management of New Jersey has the expertise and experience to ensure that your finished basement meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.
